Parti Bumi Kenyalang (PBK) is gravely alarmed by recent information that a local business federation in collaboration with some foreigners, is planning to see the Premier on 15th April 2026 to bring in between 15,000 to 20,000 foreign workers into Sarawak.
If true, this proposal represents a direct threat to Sarawak’s workforce, economy, and long-term demographic balance.
A Dangerous Turning Point
PBK warns that Sarawak is now at a critical crossroads. What begins as a “temporary labour solution” can quickly spiral into a permanent structural problem, especially if immigration controls are relaxed—whether intentionally or through weak enforcement. We have already seen this pattern elsewhere. Sarawak must not walk blindly into the same trap.
A Clear Warning from History
The situation in Sabah stands as a stark reminder of what can happen when immigration is not tightly controlled.
Unchecked inflows over time have led to:
Rapid and difficult-to-manage population changes
Strain on public resources and social systems
Long-term political and demographic consequences
PBK states clearly:
Sarawak must not allow itself to drift toward a similar outcome.
Impact on Local Workers and Businesses
An influx of 15,000–20,000 foreign workers will:
Intensify competition against Sarawakian workers, especially in lower- and mid-skilled jobs
Encourage a race to the bottom in wages, hurting local livelihoods
Place local businesses under pressure to adopt cheap labour models just to survive
This is not healthy economic growth—this is displacement by design.
Sarawak GPS Government Must Act Now
PBK calls on the Sarawak Government to immediately verify and address this matter:
1. Clarify whether such large-scale recruitment plans have been approved
2. Reject any move to relax entry controls for non-resident workers
3. Ensure that local employment is prioritised without compromise
