The rakyat expect mayors to solve real problems: clogged drains, unsafe streets, poor sanitation, rising assessments, uncollected rubbish, and enforcement failures. They are not paid to act as political spokespersons.
To dismiss the opposition as “seasonal” is arrogant, disrespectful, and an insult to democracy itself. The opposition plays a vital role in holding those in power accountable. Without checks and balances, abuse of power flourishes.
It is ironic that such remarks come from individuals appointed through political connections with ruling parties. The truth is, many YBs and political leaders have themselves overstayed their welcome after decades in office, yet continue clinging to power while ordinary people struggle with the rising cost of living and declining public confidence.
Democracy belongs to the people — not to any single party, political dynasty, or group that believes it has a permanent right to rule.
