The process of recovery of assets of suspects, especially, involving politicians had been time consuming and when matters come to court, evidence could be weak when witnesses no more could be traced, died or have migrated. Trial process also takes too long a time to complete with slow appeal process before Court of Appeal and Federal Court. Court of Appeal and Federal Court are always busy as we don't have many judges at Appeal Court and Federal Court levels.

The government is urged to cut short some processes.

When assets are frozen for purpose of investigation, a very short period should be given to suspects to justify how he could be able to accumulate his huge assets. Once not able to answer satisfactorily, a court order should then be applied to confiscate the assets to the government. If parties are not satisfied with the order of the court, they can only be allowed to appeal to the Court of Appeal and no further.

There should no more be two tiers appeal process in corruption trials like what is happening now. The law should only allows one appeal only.

Meaning that, if the court is prosecuted before High Court, the appeal could only reach the Court of Appeal as the final court of appeal and no further. The prosecution should not reach the Federal Court.

Meaning that, there should be no venue or rooms to appeal to the Federal Court.

This is because this may takes years for the Federal Court to dispose the appeal.

This will not be fair to the public because of huge public money is involved in prosecuting corruption cases.

PBK observed that many cases involving politicians were later on withdrawn after long investigations or after being filed and prosecuted in court.

This is not fair to public and to politicians involved.
